If you've always been drawn to purple, an amethyst engagement ring might be exactly what you're looking for. Rich, romantic, and a little unexpected, amethyst has a way of catching the light that feels different from the usual options. It's a stone with history, meaning, and a colour that people remember.
Amethyst engagement rings suit those who want something personal. Maybe diamonds have never excited you. Maybe you love the idea of a coloured gemstone engagement ring that reflects who you are. Or maybe you were born in February and want your birthstone on your hand for the rest of your life. Whatever brought you here, you're in the right place.
At AG & Sons, we carry a range of amethyst engagement rings in different styles, settings, and metals. From bold solitaires to delicate halo designs, each ring is crafted with care and set with stones we've selected for their colour and clarity. Purple engagement rings don't have to mean compromise. Ours are made to the same standard as any fine jewellery piece.
Amethyst sits at 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. That's hard enough for regular wear, though it does need a bit more care than a diamond or sapphire. We'll cover that below so you know exactly what to expect.
Choosing an amethyst ring for engagement comes down to a few things: colour, setting, metal, and how you plan to wear it.
Colour: Amethyst ranges from pale lilac to deep, rich purple. The most sought-after stones have a strong, saturated colour with flashes of red or blue. Think about what shade of purple you're drawn to and let that guide you.
Setting: Because amethyst is softer than diamonds, the setting matters. Bezel settings offer more protection by wrapping metal around the stone's edges. Halo settings add sparkle and can also help shield the centre stone. Solitaires look beautiful but are more exposed, so they suit people who are gentle with their jewellery.
Metal: Amethyst looks stunning in almost any metal. Purple looks warmer against yellow gold. White gold and platinum keep things cool and modern. Rose gold adds a romantic, soft contrast. Pick what feels right on your skin.
Lifestyle: Ask yourself how much your hands go through on a normal day. If you're rough with jewellery or work with your hands a lot, consider a protective setting or think about wearing your ring on a chain for certain activities.
Our amethyst engagement rings come in a variety of styles:
Whether you want something bold or understated, there's a style here that fits.

Pros of amethyst:
Things to consider:
If you want a purple gemstone engagement ring that's both affordable and beautiful, amethyst is a brilliant choice. Just treat it with a little extra care and it will last for years.
1. Can you use amethyst for an engagement ring?
Yes. Amethyst makes a beautiful and meaningful engagement ring. It works best for people who look after their jewellery and don't mind giving it a bit of extra attention.
Warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners. Dry it gently with a soft cloth.
Amethyst is a 7 on the Mohs scale, so it can scratch if it comes into contact with harder materials. A protective setting helps, and storing it separately keeps it safe.
Yes, with care. A protective setting helps a lot. Bezels and halos are good options. Beyond that, just be sensible about taking it off when you're doing heavy work or anything hands-on.
Amethyst is associated with calm, clarity, and protection. It's also the February birthstone, making it a meaningful choice for those born in that month.
We carry amethyst engagement rings at different price points, so there's something here whatever your budget looks like. If you're after affordable amethyst engagement rings that are still made properly, we've got plenty. Looking for engagement rings under £1000? We have those too. And if you want something at the higher end, our luxury amethyst engagement rings are worth a look.

I am very happy with my recent experiance at AG & Sons. They created a stunning custom-designed Earrings and Pendant set for my wife on the occasion of our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I just give them my ideas, and they made a simple and sober set for my wife. The design is fantastic, I highly recommend AG & Sons. A truly five-star experience.

The earrings have been received and they are fabulous.
Hope to do business again sometime.
Best regards
I love my bridal set and can't wait to wear it on my wedding day - 20th june 2014
Many thanks
I was delighted when they arrived, exactly as I had hoped, beautiful finish, very sparkly. I love the screw back, although fiddly, it means they are secure.
I haven't taken them off since, and I am secretly hoping my husband purchases the yellow gold version for my upcoming birthday - I have hinted several times!
The only negative comment I have is regarding the matching pendant my husband purchased for me at christmas, it is the same size as the ear-ring, which maybe we should have expected, but as a pendant it is too small. Inhindsight I should have returned it at the time, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
Despite that I would definitely purchase items with you again, and I am delighted with my ear-rings.
I was not able to take delivery yesterday but I picked my order up today. They are beautiful, I'm very pleased with them and I'm sure my wife will be.
It was a pleasure to do business with you.
Thank you,best wishes
